Appleseed Alpha Story
Appleseed Alpha
Young female soldier (Deunan) and cyborg partner (Brie) survive
post-apocalyptic New York. (WW3) They are searching for a legendary city called Olympus.

Characters
Deunan – Motive: Iris. Deunan believes that Iris is too young to be in a world like this so she helps her.
Brie – Motive is to help Deunan and save what’s left of New
York.
Matthews - Motive is to keep the city safe from Triton.
Olson – Motive is to keep Iris safe.
Iris – Motive is to keep going for Olson.
Two Horns – Motive is to save his city (New York).
Talos – Motive is to get a legendary weapon.
Nyx - Motive is to gain access to the legendary weapon by helping Talos.
Beginning
Starts on train, train gets ambushed, train crashes. Have to
take care of vaccines. Trying to find out who was responsible for the train
ambush. Brie running out of charge. Brie and Deunan destroy the vaccines which
they had to deliver to Two Horns. They thought about running away but they knew
that Two Horns would think that they ran off with the vaccines so they return
and explain that they had complications. They have a debt to pay to Two Horns,
Two Horns then orders them to go and take care of some drones.
Deunan and Brie visit Matthews. He ‘aids’ Deunan and Brie.
Matthews claims to be a medic but he is unable to fix Brie’s systems.
Middle starts when the drones show up and start attacking
Brie, Deunan, Olson and Iris
They save two people from the drones. (One human/Bionoid-Iris- and
one cyborg-Olson-) Olson fixes Brie’s systems.
Team of cyborgs (Triton) trying to find Deunan and Brie to
get Iris. (Leader: Talos)
Olson and Iris know of Triton’s plans but won’t tell Brie
and Deunan. Olson and Iris are from Olympus – Place which saves mankind. Brie
doesn’t believe in Olympus but Deunan does.
Iris doesn’t trust Deunan and Brie – she thinks they are
spies for Talos. Two Horns injured by Triton. Triton thinks that he is dead.
Matthews saves Two Horns.
Olson and Iris hide out when Two Horns shows up. Brie gives
Olson a grenade, Olson soon gives Iris the grenade.
Two Horns is in a tank and tries to kill Deunan and Brie so
he can get Iris. He knows that Triton wants Iris for something important so he
tries to get Iris first so he can make an offer to Triton. Deunan and Brie
fight back.
Iris blows up Two Horns’ tank.
Iris and Olson get kidnapped by Triton in helicopter. Triton
attempt to kill Deunan and Brie.
Iris and Olson know the location of a weapon that Triton
wants. Triton ends up taking it by force by searching through Olson’s database.
Talos kills Olson once he is finished extracting the data from him. Then throws
Olson out of the helicopter.
Two Horns and his gang survive the grenade blast and now
they want revenge on Triton.
Deunan and Brie find Olson, dead. They then have a mission
to save Iris. D + B find out about Olson and Iris’ plan.
Triton finds the prototype of the weapon that they have been
searching for. Iris’ mission is to destroy the weapon.
Deunan and Brie find the location of Iris so they fight
through Triton forces to try and save her. Two Horns shows up and destroys the
drones that are attacking Deunan and Brie. Two Horns tries to come up with an
alliance with D + B. Matthews comes in in a car and brings a weapon for Deunan.
The weapon is a suit that Deunan wears, it is made out of robotics and it is
pretty hard to destroy,
Deunan ends up going on her own to get Iris whilst Brie
tries to fight off Nyx.
End starts when the weapon is powered up
Talos manages to power the prototype weapon by using Iris.
Brie kills Nyx. The weapon then turns out to be a huge robot
which can’t be controlled – it starts demolishing what’s left of the city. Two
Horns teams up with Deunan in an attempt to stop the weapon. Brie gains access
to Triton’s helicopter and then starts attacking the weapon with missiles.
Deunan manages to get on top of the weapon. She then
destroys some of the defences on the weapon, but ends up losing her power suit
in the process. Two Horns saves Deunan as she is about to fall. Two Horns helps
Deunan get back up to the weapon but he then falls off the machine himself.
Talos is about to kill Iris but Deunan shoots him before he
does.
They try to destroy the weapon but their first attempt fails.
Deunan is attacked by Talos who was believed to be dead. Iris locks Deunan out
of the room so she can stay and sacrifice herself in order to destroy the
weapon. Brie shoots the machine and it is destroyed, killing Iris in the
process.
The people of New York are saved. Deunan and Brie then have
a goal to find Olympus. Matthews repairs the suit and gives it back to Deunan
as a gift. Two Horns lets Deunan and Brie off.
Game
Third person shooter (could also be an FPS). Play as Deunan,
surviving through the post-apocalyptic city. Starts with Deunan fighting off the ambush on the train. Able to switch between Brie and Deunan when they are fighting the drones, you play as Deunan for close combat and play as Brie for shooting from afar.
Boss at the end: The machine/weapon or/and Talos.

Story Telling In Games
Borderlands - Borderlands is my favourite game of all time and it has been since the first game which was released in 2007. The second game was released in 2012 and the Pre-Sequel was released in 2014.
The story: (First game is set on a planet called Pandora. Second game is set on Pandora. Pre-Sequel is set on Elpis.)
(You can take the role of one of four characters: Lilith, Brick, Mordecai or Roland.) In the first game the story is that there is a legend called the Vault. It contains everything you could have ever wanted, making you rich instantly if you can obtain its valuables. You have to search Pandora for parts of the Vault key in order to open the Vault, whilst helping other people along the way. Goal: Get to the Vault and kill the Guardian that protects it to get rich.
(You can take the role of one of four characters: Salvador, Maya, Axton or Zer0.) In the second game, there is a man called Handsome Jack and he is trying to find the Vault. He has a company called Hyperion which is destroying the planet you are on, Pandora, in order to find this Vault. HJ quickly becomes your enemy and you have to try and stop him from tearing everything apart. Like the first game, you also have to find the Vault and obtain its valuables once again. You have to protect Angel throughout the game, she is Handsome Jack's daughter and she fears him.
(You can take the role of one of four characters: CL4PTR4P, Nisha, Athena or Wilhelm.) The Pre-sequel is set shortly after the first game where Hyperion's base, Helios, is currently being built. It is also set after Tales from the Borderlands Episode 3. You work for Handsome Jack and you have to help him obtain a Vault key and then go out and find the Vault yourself -Same as the two previous games. You alternate between the present and the past to try and put the missing pieces of the story together.
You can buy DLC for all the games to add more characters into the main story, and add additional information to the story.
Five Nights at Freddy's (There are four games)
You play a security guard in the first three games. You play a young child in the fourth game.
There are animatronics that people are having suspicions about. They move around at night and their main goal is to kill anyone who gets in their way of trying to escape. You're job is to survive six hours for seven nights, once it reaches 6am all of the animatronics will disable. They disable at this time because they know that there is no way they can escape in the daytime with all of the people who visit the pizzeria that they are currently at. Five nights at Freddy's has one of the most complicated story-lines I have ever seen. There is so much back-story to everything that happens. When you play the fourth game, you have to go through six nights in your bedroom, you are in a coma trying to recover from a bite that one of the animatronics caused in the pizzeria. The animatronics haunt your nightmares which you can't wake up from. In between each night you play as the child in the past going to the pizzeria everyday, this allows you to piece the story together further.
There are theories that everything in the four games is just a dream. The next game to be released is called 'Five nights at Freddy's world' which will be the fifth (and probably final) game in the series. The storyline is immersive and it makes you want to find out the truth behind everything that happens.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock
'Time-corridors' start to open up all over London. This connects Elizabethan, Victorian, modern day and future London. The two main characters: The Doctor and River Song have to investigate and close these corridors. They are attacked by Cybermen, Daleks, Silurians and the Silence as they try to save London.
The storyline is okay, but the gameplay itself could have been improved to make the story more immersive and more interesting.
Tales from the Borderlands
Tales from the Borderlands consists of five episodes, each released separately on different dates. You play as two characters, Rhys and Fiona. The goal is to find the Vault and get rid of Handsome Jack for good. Handsome Jack was killed in the original Borderlands games but came back in TFTB, he is now inside Rhys' head and Rhys is the only one who can see/hear him. You have to find something called the 'Gortys Project', this will help you find the Vault.
Until Dawn
Eight teenagers (you play all of them) go to a cabin and they are being hunted by a creature called a Wendigo. The goal is to survive the night on a mountain and wait for rescue in the morning.
There is also a 'murderer' on the mountain who you are trying to avoid as you search the mountains for any sign of help. Your choices have an impact on who lives and who dies throughout the game.
You visit the cabin in memory of two friends you have lost.
Life is Strange
You play a girl called Max who has the power to go back in time. You have to find out what happened to a girl called Rachel Amber, she went missing and no-one seems to know why.
Max has to use her powers to save her friends if they get into any trouble, Only one other person knows about Max's powers: Chloe,
You also have to stop a tornado from destroying the town by using your powers.
Games without stories
Tetris
Put the blocks into the right places.
Pong
1v1 game where you try and get the ball into the goal.
Asteroids
Destroy asteroids that are coming towards you using your ship.
Flappy Bird
Dodge through pipes in order to survive.
Stories within films tend to be more immersive than ones in games. The stories in films are more thought out compared to games. However, writers have to make stories in games interesting in order to keep them entertained. Same goes for films.

Purpose of Game Music
Tftb Episode 4 – Intro sequence: Music/Song called ‘To the
Top’ by Twin Shadow. This music creates a positive atmosphere: Upbeat music. It
also advances the plot as it implies that the characters are ‘making their way
to the top’. This music is played over a
cut scene where the main characters are heading into space in a ship. The music
puts you in a good mood, making you ready to play an action and comedy packed
game. Drums – lightly played. Guitar. Quite slow-paced. Mixture of high pitch
and low pitch.
Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNaPCIxCmWM
The ending sequence of Tftb Episode 4 has dark music. It makes the atmosphere all eerie and negative, it also represents danger. The music also implies that something bad is going to happen.
The ending sequence of Tftb Episode 4 has dark music. It makes the atmosphere all eerie and negative, it also represents danger. The music also implies that something bad is going to happen.
The credit sequence plays the same song as the Intro
sequence, this shows you that there is still hope for the characters. It also
shows that positive will overcome negative in the end in Episode 5.
Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5O3UxUaLzo
Five Nights at Freddy’s – Intro sequence: There is low music
and the occasional sound of static. The music creates tension, you know that something bad is going to happen just by listening to it.

The closing music features very slow and calm violin music, letting you know that the game is near its end. Then the credits come on, the music in the credits lets you know that there is still more to fear. There is still more to come in the future. The music is still quite fast and eerie.
Legal considerations for using music and FX in games include getting permission to use other people’s creations as to not get sued for copyright. Getting permission means that you are allowed to use what someone else has produced. You can buy the rights to using someone else’s work, and there would usually be a contract involved. To try and not get any copyright infringement, you could try and create your own music and sounds. Ofcom is a communications regulator in the UK, they make sure that TV, radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services and airwaves over which wireless devices operate are within their Code of Conduct, is it is not within their Code of Conduct, they will take your creation off sale.

Understanding sound design theory
Understanding sound design theory. Nathan Bolton and Summer Bates
Listen to at least 5 different pieces of gaming music/FX.
Listen to at least 5 different pieces of gaming music/FX.
Tales from the Borderlands Episode 4:
Intro music for Episode 4 - The gamer maker
used this music to create an upbeat/positive atmosphere. I would not change the
music as I think it already sounds perfect for game and it makes it a lot more
interesting.
Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNaPCIxCmWM
Zelda:
The sound effect used when you find an item
in Zelda – the game makers used this to make you feel like you’ve accomplished/achieved
something positive. It worked because it kept people playing, it kept them
entertained every-time they heard the recognisable and iconic sound effect. It
made people WANT to find items just so they could hear the sound effect.
Portal 2:
Turrets singing at the end – The music
makes you feel calm at the end of the game. Even if there are no words within
the song it still makes you stay to the very end, the music sounds intriguing and
it leads you to the final cut-scene of the game.
Outlast:
The game make used some eerie music to try and make the player feel fear throughout the entire game. At some parts of the game, it is completely silent, making the player expect something bad to happen.
The game maker succeeded in making the music cause people fear, because the second the music starts, you know that it’s a dramatic part and it causes the player to know something bad is going to happen, you just don’t know when.
I wouldn’t use different music as the music is just as good as it is.
The Walking Dead:
The game uses different types of music, such as slow, yet eerie music to try and make you feel emotional, but also make you remember that they are always in some sort of situation.
The game maker succeeded in making you feel emotional throughout the entire game, not just because of the dialogue, but because of the music and FX.
No, the music makes you emotional enough.
The Last of Us:
The games uses smooth, kind of out of tune guitar for most of the music used in scenes, it sometimes made you emotional towards the scene, or to understand that danger is near, but because the music all sound slightly similar, it’s hard to notice what situation you’re in.
The game succeeded in making you feel like there is unknown dangers in the game, as there is no dramatic music whilst running or fighting. The music also works well with cut scenes.
Not really, because it gave you a sense that the game was realistic in the fact that it wasn’t like a movie/TV show, so limited music made it feel more real.
Why is sound important in game development?:
Music and sound FX are important within a
games development. It can make the game more immersive and more interesting.
Game developers use music to make you feel different emotions, making you want
to play more. Sound FX and music could also be used to know what kind of
personality a character has. If the music is low when a certain character is
shown, it could be saying that this character is dark and negative. However, if
the music is upbeat when a certain character is shown, it could be saying that
this character is a happy and positive character.
Sound FX like a ‘Ring collect’ in Sonic the
Hedgehog is an iconic sound. It is recognisable which helps people remember the
game by just one sound.
What is a waveform?:
Waveform is a depiction of a pattern of amplitude in the time domain.Wavelength is the distance of one wave and the same point on the next wave. Amplitude is its maximum disturbance to its undisturbed position. Frequency is the amount of waves produced every second. Pitch is the frequency of sound, the higher the pitch, the higher the frequency per second. Hertz (Hz) is a unit used to measure the frequency of a sound wave. Decibel (dB) level is a unit used to measure the intensity of a sound. A sound generator is a vibrating object which produces sound.
Foley: Artificial sound. The sound effects which are made after a movie/game has been made.
Timbre: The quality of a musical
note/sound/tone. (Distinctive)
